These lists are based on discussions we have during the various episodes and from our experience. They are informational only and are designed to provide you addition considerations that may help you with the technology in your life.

iPhone List

  • Default Purchase Consideration: iPhone 17

  • When to Buy the iPhone Air: only if you know you want it and understand the battery and camera trade off's. Also may be good if you are a two phone person due to a work phone.

  • When to Buy the SE: if budget is your top concern, the SE is a great choice. If you introducing someone into the Apple Ecosystem such as a teen, this is a great choice although the 17 would still be a go to.

  • When to Buy the Pro or Pro Max: if you want the latest and greatest, need the best camera, or need the best battery life, this is the phone for you. Also, if you just need that Orange color, go for it.

  • Other Considerations

    • How Long Will you Keep the Phone: if you keep phones for more than 2 years, you should consider getting the highest end phone you can afford. Consider the Pro or Pro Max as it will be relevant longer and has better specs.

    • Color: pick a color you are comfortable with and if you use a case like to switch cases, choose one that won't restrict your future case choices, especially if you keep phones for a long time.

    • Storage: 256gb is the base and is sufficient for most individuals. If you keep phones a long time, you should check how much storage you currently use. Go to Settings/General/iPhone storage. If you are already using 180gb or more you should consider cleaning up the phone or getting the 512gb model.

Mac List

  • Default Purchase Consideration:

    • Greg: MacBook Neo

    • Jason: MacBook Air

  • When to Buy the MacBook Neo: if you are just getting into the ecosystem, are looking for something for pre-college student, or if budget is your number one concern. If you want a second device for mobile use. If you are heading to college and want to conserve budget and won't have a major that requires instense pro-level, resource consuming apps.

  • When to Buy the MacBook Air: if you have the budget and are considering the NEO, you should consider the air. It's the Macbook most should buy. It has the ability to be configured for more intense work including video, audio, programming, and other resource intensive tasks.

  • When to Buy the MacBook Pro: if you do or plan to make money using your laptop and the quicker your machines is the more money you make, this is the right choice. It is the most versatile of all the machines.

  • When to buy the iMac: if you want a shared family computer that lives in the living room, this is your choice. Also a good choice for reception areas in businesses.

  • When to buy the Mac Studio: if you need horsepower and more flexiblity in a stationary machine. Mostly for professionals.

  • Other Considerations

    • How Long Will you Keep the Mac: the longer you plan to keep the machine, the more you should be deliberate in your purchase. Integrated memory or RAM is not upgrade so we recommend getting as much as you can afford within reason. External storage space can be connected if you run out of internal storage but internal storage is always more convenient, especially in laptops.
